All across Ireland, many GAA Clubs, community groups and parishes are organising scrap metal collection activities to raise funds for various public works.
With global commodity prices soaring, people up and down the country are finding that there are money making opportunities rusting away in their back yards. What once would have cost money to dispose of is now a valuable donation to charity. With the high prices available for scrap metal, the initiative is raising considerable sums, with some reports saying that merchants are paying €150-€170 per tonne – depending on type & quality of the metal. http://www.corkman.ie/news/gaa-and-church-move-in-on-scrap-metal-business-2652181.html
Despite warnings from headquarters about the insurance aspects of raising money in this way, simple searches online for “GAA Scrap Metal” can show that the warnings are not being heeded, and that large numbers of clubs all across the country are donning their gloves to take out the trash… http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/gaa-clamp-down-on-scrap-saturday-2555784.html
With such a great way to fund-raise, with a win-win result for all, many are realising that this is an ideal way to raise money for outside exercise areas which will provide multiple benefits for entire communities for many years to come.
Is your organisation raising money this way? Please feel free to contact us for a great opportunity to invest the money in the health of the entire community. Or if you're involved in the metals recycling business, please leave your feedback.
